PETALING JAYA:To improve public transport, the PJ city council is exercising an initiative with Prasarana Negara Bhd to set up a new bus service, Rapid PJ.

These buses will service routes in PJ that now lack a reliable public transport system — including Sri Damansara and Lembah Subang.

PJ mayor Datuk Mohammad Roslan Sakiman said: "We have to do this to ease traffic congestion in PJ. But even with this new paid service, the free PJ Community Bus Service will still continue."

Councillor Derek Fernandez said the move was part of the focus to make PJ a livable city.

"We can’t just wait for others to solve our traffic problems, which affect 600,000-odd PJ residents."

He said residents' views would be sought on where the buses should ply.

The council will also facilitate the new bus service by providing depots, passenger shelters and other necessary infrastructure, he added.
